INCEL’s often connect deeply with and make reference to the 1999 movie Fight Club. The narrator of the movie, played by Edward Norton, has an alternate persona named Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt.
Fight Club identifies a real problem: the disconnect of the post modern age fueled by capitalism and alienation. Tyler Durden has no solutions, only violence, chaos, and self destruction, and calls them wisdom. Some audiences can’t tell the difference between condoning Tyler Durden’s actions and condemning them.
The film has no answers. The film is not a celebration of directionless men, but rather a critique of a post modern world where everything is so commodified that toxic white masculinity becomes it’s own brand.
Time has proven that assessment disturbingly prescient as groups like incels lash out at a world they feels owes them something while failing to look at their own noxious behavior.
Tyler Durden promotes freedom for the sake of self indulgence, rather than responsibility towards others.
The narrator seeks emotional connection in support groups before founding fight club, which offers no truth or understanding, only violence.
In the ending of the film, the narrator rejects Tyler Durden to open himself to his girlfriend Marla, who was also seeking connection in the support groups. But not before the Fight Clubs organized under Tyler Durden succeed in a terrorist attack against Credit Card institutions, demolishing skyscrapers all across the city skyline.
The post modern male is in an incredibly tenuous place when he becomes disconnected from his own emotions and healthy ways of expressing those emotions, which boys are never allowed to develop, which is why they remain forever infantile, develop fight clubs, and terrorism, and the destruction of society which sustains us.
