Like Fundamentalist Christian Belief in Biblical Prophecies of The World Coming to an End, The Cult of AŌuṁṃu’s Vision of Armageddon is well-grounded in Apocalyptic Buddhist Theology (the overwhelming Majority of Westerners have No Understanding that Apocalyptic Elements are even Intrinsic to Buddhism).

The Climate of The Age was viewed through Apocalyptic Buddhism, which provided context in which The Chaos of The Century could be interpreted.

Nīpphônjīn Mappō-Anxiety continᵫs to Inflᵫnce Events Today. During This Degenerate Third Age, it is believed that people are unable to Attain Enlightenment through The Word of Bodhi Śhākyamuni, and Society becomes Morally Corrupt.

In Buddhistic Thought: The Teachings of The Buddha are still Correct during The Age of Dharma Decline, but People are no longer capable of following them. But Buddhistic Temporal Cosmology assumes a Cyclical Pattern of Ages; and even when The Current Buddha’s Teachings Fall into Disregard, a New Buddha Will Be Born to ensure Continuity of Buddhism. A New Period, in which The Trᵫ Faith will flower again, will be ushered in Sometime in The Future by The Bodhisattva (“Buddha-To-Be”) Mæitræya (“Miroku” in Nīhõ̞ŋŋgo̞).

Asahara Shōkō Preached that The World was to suffer evermore spiraling Impacts Under Mappō. Asahara Predicted Doom and Destruction, with Himself in The Central Role of First, Savior, and then Leader – of The Spiritually Pure Survivors. He asserted that Only Followers of AŌuṁṃu Supreme Truth would Survive into The Èræ of 正法 (“Shōhō” – a Time of Peace in which Society would be In Harmony with Buddha’s Precepts).

“The Holy Pope of AŌuṁṃu” also Claimed to be able to Teach AŌuṁṃu Adherents Levitation, Prognostication and Telepathy. Adherents could move along in their Spiritual Development through various ways and Magickal Rites. For example, a ceramic mystical trinket known as the “Perusha” was worn as a Badge and said to contain the Energetic प्राण (“Prāṇa [‘Life-Force’]”) of “The Venerable Master (Asahara Shōkō).” In The Shaktipat Rite – Requiring a Significant Donation – Spiritual Development could be accelerated through The Mystical Touch on the Forehead by one who had already Attained 解脱 (“Gedatsu [‘Salvation,’ ie ‘Total Enlightenment’]”). The Superguru’s popularity grew, and within but Two Years AŌuṁṃu Shinrikyō had enough Followers to be Granted Legal Status as a Religion Come 1989.

The First Major Turning-Point for The Cult of AŌuṁṃu was reached when it Obtained “Official Religious Corporation Status” in 日本国 (“Nīpp-Hôn-Koku [The ‘State of Japan’]”) That Year. This Status came as a direct result of the Millenarian Sect’s vigorous Lobbying Campaign and scandalous efforts to pressure the Certifying Agency and Local Politicians. 1990: The Second Major Turning-Point in the AŌuṁṃu Movement’s development occurred when Super-Guru Asahara Shōkō revisited his once-youthful dream of becoming PM (Prime Minister) of Nīpphôn. Asahara Campaigned, along with Twenty-Four of his Supreme Truth Leaders, for All The Seats in The Nīpphônjīn Parliament. In spite of Asahara’s positive Predictions, the Election proved a disaster. Nīpphônjīn Voters snubbed the AŌumu Shinri-kyō Party and The Cult’s bid to have its Candidates Elected to Public Office was unsuccessful. This Political Failure affected the developing character of the Millenarian Movement. As AŌuṁṃu’s Election Fortunes soured, Superguru Asahara’s views towards The Future turned increasingly more pessimistic. His Preaching dwelled more and more on the Disasters Awaiting Humanity. The Cult Leader had taken the Defeats Personally and Swore Revenge on those who dared to stand in AŌuṁṃu’s Way. Asahara Shōkō would extract that terrible Revenge within Half-The-Decade (Five Years).

Superguru Asahara’s Apocalyptic vision(s) began to Radicalize even further. From then on the Rhetoric of Armageddon and Paranoia became incessant.
